“Casa Luque”, living history of Nerja
Our house is located at number 2 Plaza de Cavana. It is one of the oldest documented and well preserved houses in Nerja. This building is a magnificent example of the domestic architecture built by the bourgeoisie of Nerja in the second half of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century.
Built in September 1860 by Vicente Martínez Manescau, a Nerja landowner and industrialist. He belonged to an important French family of merchants - the Manescau family – who settled in Malaga in the 18th century. One branch of the family settled in Nerja. In 1864, Vicente started the San José sugar factory, and became mayor of Nerja in 1868 and 1872, being one of the greatest donors in town.
In 1981, our parents rented the building, which was fortunately well preserved, and opened the restaurant "Casa Luque" on the ground floor.
